Lovely Possibilities of the Salad

These works are an exploration of domesticity as depicted by vintage cookbooks, and are a reflection of how everyday objects can be made unfamiliar through repetition. Pages torn from 1950's-era cookbooks placed alongside sculptural works and fake food – and then reflected back via foil and mirrors – create a distorted depiction of nourishment and domestic order. This distortion then defamiliarizes the ordinary objects into unknown materials, suggesting the fragmentation of self-hood that occurs as a result of domestic obligations.

They are also a peek into a fantastical dimension – a place where roses are always vibrant red and grapes are always ripe. These fantasy worlds appeal as an escape from the humdrum, ordinariness of reality.
